Virtual Landscaping and Free Garden Design Software

Virtual landscaping and free garden design software can actually be combined into a single software package now.

I've played with this software and found it quite powerful and relatively easy to use once you get the hang of it. It's powerful so you do have a learning curve here.

It's a free product from Google called Google Sketchup. You can download it here.

Advantages

  • Free. Hard to beat this price.

  • The basic version is a fully featured program that works on both Mac and Windows systems.

  • Powerful in the free version (the difference in free and paid is in the saving and formatting to other software modules) but the basic operation and drawing is the same.

  • Large library of free components and basic designs to download and work from.

  • Tutorials are free and online. There are also books on the market for this software that explain it step by step.

  • Disadvantages

  • The disadvantage to this free garden design software and virtual landscaping tool is that it isn't aimed at beginners. It does take time to master. So if you're looking for something easy and free both - this one won't fit the bill.

  • It is pro-level software at a free price point.

  • Bottom Line:

Free and powerful. This free garden design software tool comes with a free library of downloadable modules and projects to work from.

I have it on my system and am learning to use it for my own work. I like it and I like the price. I did buy the supporting books from Amazon and found they were worth the price.

This video shows you some of the things this software can do.

It's running in a Wonderland Server for the curious.
